2018 Success Stories

Our 2018 success stories boast quite a few numbers of American players who graduated college but were not given a proper opportunity in the United States to continue living their dream.

Scroll down for some AMAZING news of players from ALL levels of college including: NCAA Division 1, 2 and 3, NJCAA, as well as NAIA schools.

Just because you're not a top division 1 player  at a top division 1 school does not mean your career has to end when your scholarship does.

John Mike.jpg

John Michael

John Mike is another American from a division 2 NCAA school, St. Mary's University in San Antonio. John proves that players outside of top division 1 schools are quality enough to continue their career. John Mike graduated, had no looks from any teams, and no looks from any agents but was identified by Soccer Smart USA with his talents. He finds himself playing at the next level overseas living his dream.

Derek Saunier

Derek Saunier had an outstanding NCAA division 2 career! With this, he was in hopes that his talents, hard work and awards would be appreciated here in the US but that was not the case. Derek proves that players outside of top division 1 schools CAN and ARE good enough to continue their career! After many offers, Derek finally signed with a third tier club overseas where he finds himself an anchor of the team.

Dario Redono.jpg

Dario Redondo

Dario Redondo was scouted by Soccer Smart USA when he was 26 years old and proves to be a great success story. Dario attended a division 1 school and had the talent to continue playing but once again, a faulty US system proved to not accept his talents. After many years of grinding, Dario was on the verge of quitting until he was scouted by Soccer Smart USA. After many months of hard work of getting back into match fitness, Dario finds himself in the third tier overseas living the dream he fought so hard for.

Jacob Boyle

You may never truly find a harder working goal keeper than the optimistic Jacob Boyle! What a story he is! Jacob came to us with little video but was given a chance to pursue his ambitions in our Spanish Academy. After he impressed Soccer Smart USA staff, Jacob Boyle was sent to play in the third tier overseas! His hard work and ambition paid off as the team offered an amazing opportunity and contract. Jacob is now loved by his club and finds himself fighting for promotion!

Gilly.jpg

Gilly de Souza

Gilly is a Brazilian native and American citizen who played at a division 1 school in Massachusetts. He was overlooked by the US system and Soccer Smart USA did not let him get lost in purgatory. He attended our first ever trial day in San Antonio, Texas where after he was then offered a contract with a 2nd tier team overseas!

Bryan Sibble.jpg

Bryan Sibble

Bryan continues to be a rare exception showing US soccer talent that they are missing. Graduating from a division 3 school, he had no looks to continue his career. Eventually he was scouted and hand picked by Soccer Smart USA to continue playing overseas. His technical ability and intelligence was overlooked. He is not your tradition US 6 foot 3 inch, 190 pound player fit for division one, but instead quick, agile and smart.

Tyler aggio.jpeg

Tyler Agiovlassitis

Tyler is a hard worker with a chip on his shoulder reigning from Limestone college. He too has proven that division 2 players are more than good enough to continue playing after graduation. His hard work and determination allowed him to be identified, scouted and signed with Soccer Smart USA. He now finds himself at a great club in Australia dominating the league.

Tim baker.jpg

Tim Baker

Tim Baker is a great midfielder and spent many years searching for the opportunity to play after college. Tim graduated from a NCAA division 3 college but what a story he has!
Tim found himself invited to the NPSL combine where the top players in the NPSL compete. As a great player he was not scouted or picked up by any team and was stuck playing 3 month seasons after his college career. Soccer Smart USA saw his talents and he now finds himself as one of the top prospects in the SECOND tier overseas.

Thomas Palmer.jpg

Thomas Palmer

Thomas, also from Maryville college, a NCAA Division 3 player proves the talent is deeper than that of the basic division 1 colleges. Thomas found himself doing great within a smaller college but was not scouted until Soccer Smart USA gave him the nod. As very technical player within the NPSL, he decided it was time to break out of the 3 month US based soccer season and head overseas into promotion and relegation. He's proved himself as a player and continues to be one of the top prospects overseas.

Haydon Puryear.jpg

Haydon Puryear

Haydon is an explosive wingback/outside mid who finds himself in great positions on the pitch and always is an intelligent player. He almost found himself lost in the US soccer system and saw the dream of continuing his career after graduation becoming scarce until he was scouted by Soccer Smart USA. He now continues the dream and ambition of playing at a higher level. Division 3 players ARE good enough!

Krone.jpg

Derrick Krone

Thinking about coming to our trials? Here's a perfect example of hard work.

Derrick is a great player but has no college experience and has only played in the NPSL. At 25 years old, do you think a team in the US gave him a even a look? Nope.
He came to Soccer Smart USA trials, impressed and is now headed overseas to play in the second tier. Thanks for trusting in Soccer Smart USA and congratulations!

Griffin libhart.jpg

Griffin Libhart

Happy to have placed Griffin Libhart in the SECOND tier overseas!
After an injury and playing in the USL, the US soccer system pushed a great division 1 player to the side. He knew that a season without soccer is a death wish to a player's career. He trusted Soccer Smart USA to get him placed VERY LATE in the transfer window and got things done.
Congratulations and ball out!

Michael Caccavo.jpg

Michael Caccavo

Michael Caccavo, a Canadian who played NAIA tried many different avenues with many different companies to continue playing at a higher level but all fell short. As an All-American, Michael is a great player who definitely deserves a shot to play. He trusted in Soccer Smart USA and was offered a great contract overseas.

What do the Soccer Smart Players say about us?

Hi elliot, everything going quite well. were 5 games into the season and we have probably played the 5 hardest teams. won one, drew 2 and lost 2 so we need to step things up. Standard of the league is quite good, teams usually have one or two stand out players. I’ve been playing all over the place, left back for a good few games, right back last weekend. number 10 first half yesterday and left wing second half. played quite well yesterday even though we got beat. got our man of the match award they give out every home game.

job is going well too, it can get boring but the money is so good for what we are doing. its very relaxed in there and everyone at work are cool. its nearly all backpackers. ‘
overall I’m loving melbourne and enjoying the football :) just have a few niggling injuries to get over, get settled in one position and i expect to do a lot better. the same goes with the team, we just need a win or two to get a bit of momentum

— Garbhan Grant, Melbourne

“Hi Elliot & Chris 👍🏼. How are you both?
Been here 2 months now pal and still loving it. Got a full time job sorted within 2 weeks with Garbhan for Telstra phones. Easy job and $25 an hour can’t complain. The house is good, ping pong, Xbox, tv, own room, free Accomodation can’t complain!!!

Footy is good, L1 W1 D1 so far but shaping up nicely hopefully get a few more points on the board. It’s cooling down in Melbourne at the moment which is nice but going to do the east coast and farming straight after the season so fits in nicely just before Xmas!! Overall mate loving life and can’t see myself coming home soon Hahah.

— Alex McQuade - Melbourne

“Anything to help you guys out, I’ll do. It has been a good experience here so far. Unfortunately, I am currently injured. I injured my groin the second game. I did make a highlight tape of the first game though, and I will attach that at the end of the email. I scored 2 goals in that game, I was in pretty good form. I should be back on the pitch in about 3-4 weeks, but the team has treated me very well throughout the whole process. Free Chiropractic care, massages, and rehabilitation. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I joined the aquatic centre up the road to do my pool exercises in the morning, and I am a teacher’s aid at a local Catholic School, so I am earning a fair amount of money. There isn’t anything on your part that could have made me feel more comfortable on this journey.

— Michael Monticchio - National Premier LEague

“Everything is going good so far! The club has helped us with alot of things! It’s a great club to be at! The football side is going well at the moment won 2 out of 3 games so got of to a good start plus I’ve scored 4 in 3

— Conor Gaul, St. Kilda

“Been playing pretty well to, everyone in the club is treating us like superstars the manager the captain the senior players even the reserve players look after us check on us see if everything is okay makes us feel safe! Everything you done for us is spot on mate well worth the money wouldn’t of been able to find a club without use!

— Jay Thomas, St. Kilda

“I am really enjoying my time in the city of Brisbane. Its the perfect place. And I’m grateful with the opportunity SoccerSmart has given me but I truly do hope I can move up to NPL or even potentially the A-league after this season. So if you guys could potentially help me look for a new team in those divisions after this season it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again Elliot for all your help

— Sandro, Capital League 1

“Hi Elliot, Things are going great out here! i’m absolutely loving Melbourne. the team is shaping up well for the season as well, couple weeks out from our first competitive game but we have had plenty of pre-season games and the signs are good for the season. I’d be one of the fittest in the team but just need to be a bit sharper by the time season starts, getting sharper each week though.

I got a job as well in a call centre, easy work for good money so I can’t complain one bit about it. 25 an hour, the accommodation is great as well and all the boys are sound, alex actually just started in the same job as me there on tuesday, Im 2 and a half weeks into it. It’s all foreigners in there on the working holiday visa. so overall everything going great! everyone at the club is very nice and seem to do a lot for everyone :)

— Garbhan Grant - Melbourne, Australia

“Loving it out here, love the family I’ve been staying with, got a place all sorted now and my girlfriend will be moving in there on Sunday.
Got a few trial games coming up that I’m looking forward too as well.

— Matthew Wood - New South Wales

“We approached Elliot in October 2015 as our son Connor Hancock wanted a new challenge of playing in Australia. Connor was already playing first team football for Stockport County FC at 17/18 years of age so it was a big step for him to take as he already had a pro contract in England. As soon as we spoke with Elliot the transition was quick, professional and most importantly Elliot made us as parents feel secure in the knowledge that he will be looked after.
What impressed us most was that Connor did have a few offers from National Premier League sides in OZ but Elliot advised him not to go to clubs that offered him the best financial package but the club that would look after him the best as a 18 year old on the other side of the world.
Three months later he left Stockport County and was on a plane to the Sunshine Coast Queensland playing in the second tier of Ozzy Soccer the NPL.
He has been their now 6 weeks and as Connor has quoted “I’m living my dream “
Everything Elliot promised has come to fruition and more.
We are constantly in contact with Elliot and have piece of mind that he is their for us and Connor whenever required. As a parent if your son or daughter wants to go abroad to play don’t look any further than Soccer Smart. Great professional service, great staff but most importantly only a phone call away.
Thanks Soccer Smart
Paul Hancock.

— Paul Hancock - Parent of Connor Hancock

“Hi Elliot,
I’m loving it out here at the moment.
Is like to say a huge thank you for making my dream come true. From the first stage of the process you’ve helped me along the way and even though I’m abroad you’re still offering support and help. Thank you again.

— Paul Mooney (Warrington FC) - Rochedale Rovers FC

“Hope all is well. Just letting you know I will be signing again for Murray UTD next year! I did speak to a couple NPL teams but the package here was really good, and I feel settled. Its a great club, with great people like Pedro and james etc. I know they are really happy with yourself and soccer smart for the help you have given and continued partnership in the future.

Just want to say thanks for helping getting me out here, was the best decision I have ever made.

— Ash Dunn (Former Salford City FC) - Murray United SC

“A huge thank-you to Soccer Smart - especially Chris for helping us every step of the way in securing Dino’s American scholarship.
He has settled in really well and is enjoying every minute of his experience.
We would definitely recommend your services – which have been excellent!
Thank-you again,

— Sarah and David Jones

“Just want to say thank you 😃 I am so glad Kane made the choice to go with soccer smart instead of uni 👍. What a good life he is living over in Australia and he is loving every minute. Once again thank you .

— Vicky Hughes, Mother of Kane Hughes playing in Australia

“Before signing I thought that Chris was really helpful with assuring me he would do all he could to secure me the best scholarship. As I was taking a big financial risk and he explained all the details fully and helped me be 100% sure.

Chris made me feel welcome regularly phoned me and asked how I was getting on and made sure I was progressing with my tasks to get sorted for the USA.

Chris phoned me at least once a week, with scholarship offers and then when we decided the college I was going to,always helped with any paperwork. The paperwork ranged from financial documents to sorting out my visa.

I played in 3 showcase matches which were videod, and I had my own match videod playing for my UK local team.

The positives were you got a fair share of playing time, in your correct position and had the opportunity to showcase your talents.

A big thank you to Chris, who tirelessly worked to help me and had to deal with constant questions from me my mum and my dad. Whilst managing other clients he always put 100% into getting me a scholarship and it paid off.

Also happy that although I’m going to a junior college (2 year programme), Chris will aid me in transferring for my final 2 years.

— Josh Logan, Ancilla College

“I highly recommend Soccer Smart to any individual who likes the idea of travelling to a new country and playing football. Elliot was my consultant and he and the company provided a personal and professional service that went beyond my expectations. Throughout the process he was very open, honest and approachable and helped me make the right decision from a playing perspective whilst also ensuring my housing and work needs were covered. I can only suggest making the jump if you have the chance; Soccer Smart provides the best opportunity for you to have an experience of a lifetime.

— Nick Swirad, Northern Rangers (ex FC United)

“Nick had an outstanding start to the year with probably a best on ground.
Working out really well. We are super happy, your advice was spot on.

— Brendan, Coach in Victory League Tasmania

“Life is great down here. I’m playing and coaching for the club, I have moved into my place and my partner has arrived and gotten settled in. I have even begun to make contacts for the A-league. The club is really looking after me and I am happy with the situation.

— Sean Leiws, Olympia Warrios

“Because i was going to Australia i dealt mostly with Elliot, i can happily say the whole process ran smoothly and easy. The support was there whenever i needed it, Elliot and soccer smart was there to speak to if i had any questions; no hassle. i couldn’t of asked for much better. if your serious about playing football abroad, i would highly recommend soccer smart.

— Darryl Grant, Rochedale Rovers

“Elliot and Soccer Smart have been brilliant with me throughout my whole time with them, they helped me find the best scholarship available at a very good US college and were always on hand to help with any issues I had, they have helped me in understanding what is required before I go over there. I strongly recommend Soccer Smart to anyone who wants to go to America, without them getting a scholarship wouldn’t have been possible for me.

— Nico Stutely, Shorter University

“The lads at soccersmart have helped me every step of the way, I can honestly say without their guidance and expertise my move to the USA would not of been possible. Special thanks to Chris for all the help and advice he has given me.

— Max Tyers, Cumberlands University

“I would like to thank soccersmart for getting me this opportunity to play football in Australia! I have been out here over 2 months now and have enjoyed every minute! “I came over to Perth to play football in January and have loved every minute since! The way of life is awesome and everyone is so laid back. In terms of football, Warren & Elliot found me a great club with brilliant owners and fantastic coaches with years of top level experience. Plus it is a very good standard of football and I’m enjoying every game. Getting paid good money to play is an extra bonus, but knowing what I do now, I would have done it for free. The boys at Soccer Smart have supported me throughout, keeping in touch to ensure I am secure and settled. I strongly recommend this experience and the Soccer Smart agency to any player wanting to play overseas. Thanks guys.

— Josh Norgate, Western Knights

“I am very thankful for the help from Elliot and Warren throughout this process. I had played four years at an American university and was ready to move on to the next level overseas. Soccer Smart was able to get me in contact with a great club in Australia, and I am enjoying every second of my season so far.

— Nicholas Kristock, Logan Lightning

“I am writing on behalf of Singleton Strikers Football Club to say a formal ?Thank You? for your work in recruiting Kevin Atherton for season 2014. Kevin was a very popular recruit, and made an immediate positive impression at our Club. He arrived just 1 week before the season started, which no doubt made it more difficult for him, but he had soon proved his worth and became an automatic choice as First Team ?keeper. He was a strong performer in a side that struggled at times defensively, and he polled very strongly in our end of season Player Awards. Off the park, Kevin is a likeable, easy-to-get-on-with young man. He made friends with his team mates quickly and easily, and quickly became one of the lads. We would not hesitate to have Kevin back again, or to recommend him to another Club. Thank you once again for your help.

— David Andrews, President Singleton Strikers

“I am loving life out here everyone is so friendly and the family have made me feel like I am at home and all the players and staff have made me feel very welcome! Just finished my first coaching session and off down to a festival this weekend with the u12’s as well so looking forward to that. But everyone is going great out here and plenty more of good times to come:)

— Josh Maskill, Devonport

“I would just like to thank Soccer Smart for giving me the opportunity to play football in Australia, I would recommend Soccer Smart to anyone who was interested in playing football over seas, I have bin out in Australia for 3 weeks now and doubt I will come home. The people are great, you get looked after very well. And the weather is beautiful.

— Cory vickers, Devonport Strikers FC

“Soccer Smart helped me with an Australian club. It was one of the best things Ive ever done, Im really grateful to Elliot & Warren for this opportunity. They were very helpful and always kept me updated. The process was simple as they did most of the work using their experience & contacts. Within months they had found me a team, Warren had previously played there so they knew I would be looked after and they met a couple of times with my parents present to ask any questions. When I arrived in Australia I was greeted by the manager and lived with him for a month and made quite a lot of friends so was really comfortable. I got a job through someone at football, it wasn’t the best job, but the most important thing was earning money. Not long after I managed to save up enough money and got a car. With a car came a better job and opportunities. The season was enjoyable although we didn’t quite finish where we wanted to and I missed a few games.

— Marlon Martins, Armadale SC

“Elliot and Soccer Smart have been brilliant with me throughout my whole time with them, they helped me find the best scholarship available at a very good US college and were always on hand to help with any issues I had, they have helped me in understanding what is required before I go over there. I strongly recommend Soccer Smart to anyone who wants to go to America, without them getting a scholarship wouldn’t have been possible.

“My decision to sign with soccer smart was made when we had the player and parent meeting with Chris and he explained to us what soccer smart do and also what you as a player have to do to help with the process. Everything that was said was very positive and this is why I signed.

On signing – how did Soccer Smart make you feel welcome to the team?
You know from day 1 that soccer smart will always be doing everything they can to get your process of obtaining a scholarship going. It was made clear that if you had any questions then a text or phone call was always welcome and they will do everything they can to help you.

Throughout the process did you feel like you could pick up the phone/email/contact your consultant at any time?
Yes definitely. If ever I had any concerns or questions I could always phone Chris and he would help as much as he could. Even if he couldn’t give me the direct answer he would make phone calls himself to find out and would get back to me asap.

Did you ever get an opportunity to gain video footage or play in front of coaches from overseas?
Soccer Smart received all my match footage from pnewfc and then compiled a video of my best bits so coaches from America could see this. This helped me gain my scholarship.

Was there any positives about Soccer Smart showcases and games that you attended?
Although I’d already signed with a college in America when I played in the showcase, it was beneficial for me because I could see the talent that played in that game, hopefully these girls will sign with soccer smart and I’ll be able to give them help through the process and be a contact if they have questions.

Would you like anything else to say?
I wouldn’t have been able to achieve my dream of going to America for uni without soccer smart, thanks for everything☺️

— Holly Rawcliffe, Limstone South Carolia USA Scholarship

“A huge thank-you to Soccer Smart - especially Chris for helping us every step of the way in securing Dino’s American scholarship.
He has settled in really well and is enjoying every minute of his experience.
We would definitely recommend your services – which have been excellent!
Thank-you again.

“Thank you for your expertise, guidance and assistance in placing our son at North Western Ohio University. This was our first time sending our son to university and we found the whole process very daunting more so as the US requests a lot more information than you would expect if studying in the UK. Working with Soccer Smart gave us the support to be able to complete all the necessary paperwork and have all our questions and concerns about life in the US as a student answered. Chris Anderson was our contact and was always on hand whether by mobile or in person at one of the trials. If you are thinking of signing up to Soccer Smart I would highly recommend them, they have a structured business model and extensive contacts in the US for placing footballers at reputable Universities.

— Crispin Kelly (Parent of Rodrigo Kelly)
